Translation

Translators convert written materials in one language to the equivalent text in another language.

Translation occurs after a text is created which permits the use of reference materials, such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, etc., in order to produce an accurate end product. Translators have great writing skills and they also are pros at using computer-assisted translation tools.

A translator  often works in one direction- translating into their native language, unless they are a true bilingual, growing up speaking two languages.  Translators do not have to be fluent in the source language (passive) as an interpreter must be, thus, a translator may have many passive languages!
