About us

Legal Interpreters is an agency approved by the New Jersey registry of court interpreting resources.

The company

LEGAL INTERPRETERS LLC is an interpreting agency founded by an actual interpreter with broad and extensive interpreting experience. Agata Baczyk had been working as an independent interpreter for several years and decided to start her own interpreting agency in order to address the industry's need for professional and experienced interpreters. Most interpreting agencies are not able to screen or assess their interpreters effectively because they don't have the needed tools and knowledge of what the job entails. As a company led by a professional interpreter, we are able to ensure that the linguists we contract with are knowledgeable and experienced.

The owner Agata Baczyk

Agata Baczyk has been interpreting since 2006. She is a Polish interpreter with experience in legal and medical interpreting as well as social work, educational, and community interpreting. In addition to being a Master Level Court Interpreter in New Jersey and a Certified Court Interpreter in New York state and Pennsylvania, she is also a qualified medical interpreter and had worked... at Bellevue Hospital Center as a medical and community interpreter. She taught Healthcare Interpreting courses at a number of CUNY schools, including Hostos Community College and LaGuardia Community College. While working for various agencies, she noticed a disconnect between some agencies and client and interpreter needs. So she decided to start her own interpreting agency to address the need for professional and experienced interpreters while cultivating close relationships with those interpreters. view more

Our linguists

Our interpreters and translators are some of the best linguists in the nation. Each linguist is carefully reviewed before they are added to our database. We make sure the interpreters we work with are certified by a state or a federal court. For those languages that cannot be certified because testing is not offered, we contract interpreters that have worked in the courts in the past and have solid and proven experience to ensure they are qualified to perform interpretation in the legal setting. For translators and interpreters hired in areas of expertise outside the legal field (such as medical, military, or technical), we screen our linguists for relevant experience, extensive training, certifications/diplomas, and sample work (where applicable) to ensure quality product or service. We take extra care to match the right linguist to your event or project.

Services

We have a certified professional that will meet your expectations in a variety of different interpretation settings. We review and verify the experience and credentials of every linguist we hire to bring you the highest quality services available.

Government

Legal Interpreters LLC is a holder of a GSA contract # 47QRAA18D0089

Working with government agencies is nothing new to us!

We have an extensive history of working with government clients even prior to our inclusion on the GSA. Some of our longest professional relationships involve regularly working with the Department of Justice (DOJ) U.S. Attorney’s Office in New York (Southern District), frequently booking interpreters for proffers, court, interviews, and other events.

We also have a history of working with various other DOJ U.S. Attorney’s Offices throughout the country. And since our inclusion on the GSA, we have worked with many diverse government clients; read on for highlights on just a few of our numerous bookings.

Department of Justice (DOJ) U.S. Attorney’s Office in New York

What are some interpretation projects we have worked on?

We have secured an annual contract to provide two Spanish interpreters for two 6-week ISR training programs and two 3-week pilot instructor trainings for the Mexican military. Our linguists even interpret during flights! (Crestview, F L)

We schedule American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters for weekly safety meetings and ad-hoc special events for Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) briefings at a Marine Corps base. (Cherry Point, NC)

We located and hired two Arabic interpreters for a 2-week long military training course involving Iraqi soldiers in support of technical day-to-day vehicle de-processing. (New Orleans, LA)

We provided the services of a Kru interpreter for a week-long criminal assault trial, in addition to pre-trial hearings and attorney/client conferences. (Fort Worth, TX)

We hired two qualified and experienced Ganda interpreters for a highly complex medical case involving proceedings in multiple courts and locations for status, pre-trials, divorce, sentencing hearings, and trials over a span of a year. (Martinsburg, WV)

We acquired two certified American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters for a 3-day mixed-mode classroom and wetland fieldwork training in a National Wildlife Refuge. (Rio Mora National Wildlife Refuge, NM)

We have an extensive history of working with courts as well as non-government clients. Click here for additional information

What else do we do?

We also provide transcription and translation services through open market orders.
We have expert linguists in the same large variety of languages, delivering the same high-quality products as our interpreting services.

What are some translation/transcription projects we have worked on?

We coordinated seven Russian linguists on a rushed timeline to transcribe and translate almost 16.5 hours of audio, and two Danish translators on an additional 5 hours of audio and over 30,000 words of translated documents in cases related to conspiracy to import illegal substances into the US.

We provided translation and transcription services in Arabic, Russian, and Uzbek for a complex Islamic terrorist criminal case involving 14 linguists collaborating on over 14,000 mixed-language documents resulting in more than 225,000 translated words and over 8 hours of audio.

We managed seven Arabic translators and transcribers working on nearly 50 hours of audio over a 2-month period related to recruitment and indoctrination into extremist Islamic organizations.

INTERPRETING FOR ROYALTY (May 2022)

We are proud of our eight interpreters in four different languages that interpreted for the 2022 International Special Operations Forces (ISOF) Conference. Over two days, they interpreted for industry and government/military leaders, including His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan!

Our interpreters worked in language-specific (Spanish, French, Arabic, and Russian) teams of two taking turns as they interpreted during speeches, presentations, discussion panels, and break-out groups. They were supported by our two technicians providing interpreting equipment for the 200 attendees needing language services.

They even got the opportunity to attend the conference during their down time and see product demonstrations and network with vendors. As well as attend a formal evening reception with foreign delegations. We are thankful to the SOFIC organizers for providing our interpreters with such a wonderful experience!

SEEING OUR INTERPRETERS IN ACTION! (March 2021)

As an owner I don't get many opportunities to get out in the field and watch my interpreters in action. But it was to my great pleasure to visit the training facility at Crestview and meet my interpreters, the students and instructors, as well as the contracting officers overseeing the GSA contract. The experience reminded me just why we do what we do... find the right specialized interpreters for specific events so that everyone can engage and have a fulfilling and productive experience.

My two amazing and highly skilled interpreters impressed me not only with their interpretation skills but their flexibility to move between the classroom setting and in-flight interpretation. That's right! They were interpreting up in the air! And with their seamless ability to provide support as cultural liaisons.

And... my interpreters will get to do it again since we have total of four (6-week and 3-week long) events scheduled! I wish I had the ability to get out of the office more often and see my adept interpreters in action, but in the meantime, I'll cherish these rare experiences. - Agata Baczyk

ATA 2015 Miami, FL (November 2015)

We recently attended the American Translators Association's 56th Annual Conference in sunny Miami! It was such an amazing experience. We connected with many new interpreters and translators throughout the conference as well as caught up with those we've worked with before, attended informative workshops about our always-changing industry, and even met some of our current clients!

For those of you who do not know, the American Translators Association is the largest professional association of translators and interpreters in the United States with over 10,000 members! Attending this prestigious event is an honor and we look forward to the next conference in San Francisco, California in 2016!

We are on the news! (December 2015)

We recently were a part of an amazing conference called "Doing Business in Algeria Road Show 2015" hosted by The US-Algerian Business Council and The American Arab Chamber of Commerce. This conference brought together U.S. & Algerian government officials and CEOs of both public and private companies from Algeria to meet their high-level counterparts in the US in order to conduct productive business to business discussions.

We were tasked with scheduling 40 simultaneous and consecutive French interpreters in two major cities (Washington, DC and Detroit, MI). With such high profile government and business officials attending, our client had very high expectations. We provided the best of the best and nothing less.

After screening over 100 French interpreters from 7 different states, we are proud to say that we exceeded our client's expectations! Interpreting for a conference of this magnitude isn't an easy task, but our interpreters performed wonderfully! One of our interpreters in Detroit, Frank Fernandez, was even featured on Detroit's Channel 7 News while interpreting for Algeria's Minister of Industry, Abdelslam Bouchouareb. Check out the clip above which was aired in Detroit and featured on WXYZ.com!

We were more than impressed w/the gentleman that showed up for the interpretation. He showed up early, was dressed very professionally and was really accommodating. Legal Interpreters is now our go-to company for our translation needs. And I will definitely recommend them to the other secretaries I work with, both in and outside of my firm.
