Women interpreters have made significant strides in ensuring equal access to justice for all, regardless of language barriers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the field of interpretation, women outnumber men. According to online job search platform, Zippia, in 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zippia.com\/certified-court-interpreter-jobs\/demographics\/\">66.81%<\/a><a href=\"#_edn1\" id=\"_ednref1\">[i]<\/a> of certified court interpreters in the U.S. were women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This trend of increasing female representation extends to other sectors of the legal field as well. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanbar.org\/news\/profile-legal-profession\/women\/\">recent data<\/a><a href=\"#_edn2\" id=\"_ednref2\">[ii]<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"614\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/legal-interpreters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Thank-You-614x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3999\" style=\"width:268px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/legal-interpreters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Thank-You-614x1024.png 614w, https:\/\/legal-interpreters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Thank-You-180x300.png 180w, https:\/\/legal-interpreters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Thank-You-768x1280.png 768w, https:\/\/legal-interpreters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Thank-You.png 825w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>56.2% of law students are women<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>51.5% of federal government general lawyers are women<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>50.3% of law firm associates are women<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>49.2% of full-time law school faculty are women<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While men continue to dominate the highest-ranking positions of the U.S. legal profession\u2014 including state supreme court seats, corporate counsel roles, federal judgeships, and law firm partnerships\u2014professional women have steadily advanced in the legal field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Pioneering In Court Interpretation<\/strong> &nbsp; <br>Did you know? Grace Bagnato, born in Scranton, Pennsylvania to Italian-born parents, became Toronto&#8217;s first female court interpreter in 1921. She spoke Yiddish, Ukrainian, Polish, Russian, German, and Italian in addition to her native English. By 1936 she was Toronto\u2019s most sought-after interpreter, even receiving requests from Montreal and New York officials. Grace&#8217;s pioneering work paved the way for the strong representation of women in court interpretation we see today.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Vital Role of Women Interpreters in the Legal System<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Legal interpreters are essential for equal access to justice for people with limited English proficiency, and women interpreters play a key role in promoting fairness and equality in the legal system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The presence of women interpreters can be especially impactful in cases involving:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Domestic violence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sexual assault<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Child custody disputes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Human trafficking<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In these situations, female interpreters may help create a more comfortable environment for victims and witnesses, particularly women and children who may feel more at ease communicating with a woman. <ins><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">This added comfort can lead to more accurate and comprehensive testimonies.<\/span><\/ins><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Continued Support and Celebration<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a woman-owned company, we&#8217;re proud to contribute to the advancement of women in legal interpretation.
